Bernadette Bascom - From Star to Superstar
MEMPHIS TN (IFS) -- Bernadette Bascom received her coveted Emmy Award this past December for her PBS Television Special entitled "Bernadette's Choice". With this great honor goes the price of past performances, such as her recordings from the 1970s-80s and 90s which has pushed her 45 RPM Singles to an unprecedented $150 per copy for some of her old recordings.
Ms. Bascom still records and has had her hands firmly in the careers of many American Idol semi-finalists. Her career in the recording business starts her as a DJ in Baltimore, Maryland where doing an interview with StevieWonder, he steals her right off the air to lead his then famous group "Wonderlove". She stepped into the shoes of Denise Williams when she left to go solo.
After Wonder disbanded Wonderlove, Bascom joined the Five Stairsteps on Curtis Mayfield's Curtom Records. After that, she joined Macfadden and Whitehead for their smash hit recording "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" at Philadelphia International Records.
On her third swing through the pacific Northwest, she decided the road was a little to much and decided to settle down and start a family. Ms. Bascom continued to record some of her best recordings of her life, including "Seattle Sunshine" the song of the city and a big hit record.
This lead her to work with Thom Bell again from Philadelphia, when he called her to performance several songs on the album, "The Thom Bell Sessions" for Sir Elton John.
One can go on and on about the great talent of Bernadette Bascom, but you get the idea. You can follow her at bernadettebascom.com or at Link-In.com.
